DanJia Salted Fish Casserole 疍家咸鱼煲
Salted fish is a family dish in Hainan. The salted fish baked by DanJia fishermen on board is a fine salted fish jerky with compact and chewy meat without any artificial additives. DanJia salted fish has a strong smell of fish. It's delicious to cook pork with wine and rice.
West Coast Seafood 西部海鲜
Cheaper and fresher than any available in other parts of Hainan, the seafood alone is a good enough reason to travel to Hainan’s West Coast. Buy fresh caught wriggling seafood right from the fisherman at one of the many fishing docks and ports along Hainan’s long West Coast, and have it cooked however you like just steps away at one of the many seafood cooking stalls lining the harbor. We recommend steamed with plenty of garlic, or spiced with Hainan’s own fiery yellow lantern peppers!

Tanmen Seafood 潭门海鲜
Tanmen is a small fishing town on the East Coast of Hainan, and it is definitely where you want to go if you are a seafood lover. Head to the Tanmen seafood fair if it’s open while you are in town! During fishing season, locals head to the seashore, vying to buy the fresh catch of the day. A seafood fair forms on the shore and the docks, and everyone can join in the fun! The seafood is good in quality at reasonable prices, and you can have it cooked for you, right where you are!
Hele Crabs 和乐蟹
Hele crab is a kind ofgreen crab growing in Xiaohai, a lagoon near Wanning City, where salty and fresh water meet offshore. It is highly praised for fresh and sweet meat, abundant golden crab cream (like the yolk of a salted duck egg). Therefore, it is rich in flavor and nutrition, especially when steamed.

Seafood 海鲜
Hainan cuisine is light and fresh, with plenty of fruit, seafood, and noodles! The freshness and quality of the ingredients is showcased here, so there is no need for much processing or seasoning. The original flavors are enhanced with simple sauces and dips, like the popular calamansi citrus fruit dipping sauce! There’s plenty of variety here, and seafood, vegetable and fruit lovers will be in heaven.

You’ve absolutely got to try the seafood in Sanya, where the catch of the day is always on special display. Shrimp, oysters, crabs, lobsters, clams, fish of every shape and size… the variety and quality has to be seen to be believed.

Yanglan Sour Fish Soup 羊栏酸鱼汤
This tasty sour fish soup features the truly definitive local flavor of food cooked by the Muslim Hui People in Fenghuang Town (formally known as Yanglan Town). Made with fish caught from the sea nearby, and enhanced with the leaves and fruit of Sanya’s sourbean tree, as well as sour star fruit and sour bamboo shoots, this dish tastes both fresh and sour at the same time.
Fishing Raft Seafood 渔排海鲜
For a truly unique Hainan culinary experience, head out to the Fishing Rafts, where you will find floating seafood restaurants serving extremely fresh caught seafood, cooked to taste.
Wuzhishan Stone-scale Fish 五指山石鲮鱼
The Wuzhishan Stone-scale fish is a freshwater fish found in the streams and rivers of central Hainan. Locals call this the “surfing fish” because it likes to “surf” upstream through the river rapids, similar to salmon. The firm flesh is plentiful and mild in flavor, and is often served steamed or roasted.
Salted Fish & Pork Belly Clay Pot 咸鱼煲
A favorite dish of the Dan Fishing people in Sanya, Salted Fish & Pork Belly Clay Pot is created with dried, salted fish, cured right on the fishing boat. Later, fresh pork, ginger, spring onions, peppers, and other savory ingredients are stewed together in a clay pot, and the result is full of flavor and southern Hainan charm.
