Dance is a part of the Li people’s philosophy of “living at one with nature.” In its movements echoes the ancient dialogue between mankind and mother earth.

The Suwa Dance, also known as the bowl-tapping dance, represents the Li people’s strength and courage, as well as their hope for a better life. A traditional folk dance of the Li people in the Sai dialect area, it was inscribed on the Hainan Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2024.
