Young people are the most vigorous and enterprising… A nation will be full of hope and have a great tomorrow when its younger generations have ideals, ability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
"The Power of Youth and Dreams," a series co-created by Hinews and Hainan International Media Center, puts the spotlight on ten Chinese and foreign young people who have pursued their aspirations and forged shining stories rooted in openness and innovation during their many years in Hainan and China. Through their actions, they demonstrate their shouldering of social responsibility, becoming a bridge for intercultural exchanges. Their stories motivate others to realize their dreams in China and contribute their efforts to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Jinx Kele (可樂) is a conceptual visual artist from Indianapolis, Indiana of United States. After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Herron School of Art and Design in 2011, she took a hiatus in Fuzhou before continuing her education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome with a major in art therapy.
After graduation, a previous visit to Hainan prompted her to move to the island for what was supposed to be “a brief interval.”
Now living in Haikou with her husband, daughter, and three cats (Gaia, Nezha and Zero), Jinx Kele transitioned to full time artist after holding her first solo exhibition in Haikou's historic downtown in 2019, with subsequent exhibitons at the Coral Gallery and Yiguo Art Space in Haikou, the Gallery in Sanya's Haitang Bay, Hainan is no longer a place of exploration and possibility but her home. The influence of Hainan's beautiful environment on her work has resulted in brighter and more colorful paintings.
Participating in the "Haikou City Art Week” in October 2024, Jinx Kele vividly recalled how Hainan used to lack art exhibition halls and galleries and expressed approval for the increase in places where the public can come into in contact with modern art, The music, performing arts, and art activities. This positive trend for Hainan's arts scene speaks well of a growing sense of aesthetics. Jinx Kele stated that “in the past, maybe people thought that the people here couldn't get art, but that's just totally underestimating the people of Hainan," so she hopes all aspects of the arts in Hainan can keep developing more and more.
This series is funded by the China Internet Development Foundation (CIDF).
