Young people are the most vigorous and enterprising… A nation will be full of hope and have a great tomorrow when its younger generations have ideals, ability, and a strong sense of responsibility.

"The Power of Youth and Dreams," a series co-created by Hinews and Hainan International Media Center, puts the spotlight on ten Chinese and foreign young people who have pursued their aspirations and forged shining stories rooted in openness and innovation during their many years in Hainan and China. Through their actions, they demonstrate their shouldering of social responsibility, becoming a bridge for intercultural exchanges. Their stories motivate others to realize their dreams in China and contribute their efforts to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Fifteen years ago, while working in Hong Kong SAR, one of Jeremy Grinan's friends suggested he come to Hainan for a short holiday. Within moments of arrival, the lackadaisical tropical pace and beautiful scenery had already won the Frenchman over and he made the decision to move to the southern Chinese province.

None too fluent in Mandarin or English at that time, his earliest forays into local social life were centered around music. Transcending the limitations of words, the language of drums and keyboards was enough to win him many new friends. This enchanting environment would also lead to his decision to go pro as a photographer and short filmmaker who both experiences Hainan's customs, food, and art, and who shares them with the outside world.

In this video, Jeremy has invited a special friend, another Jeremy, from a different space, to share the experience of chasing dreams in Hainan.
