Young people are the most vigorous and enterprising…A nation will be full of hope and have a great tomorrow when its younger generations have ideals, ability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
“The Power of Youth and Dreams,” a series co-created by Hinews and Hainan International Media Center, puts the spotlight on ten Chinese and foreign young people who have pursued their aspirations and forged shining stories rooted in openness and innovation during their many years in Hainan and China. Through their actions, they demonstrate their shouldering of social responsibility, becoming a bridge for intercultural exchanges. Their stories motivate others to realize their dreams in China and contribute their efforts to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
By 2030, 1 in six people in the world will be aged 60 years or over. By this time, the share of the population aged 60 and over will have increased from 1 billion in 2020 to 1.4 billion. Facing this reality, China’s traditional eldercare industry has undergone a rapid transformation in recent years, becoming more specialized, refined, and diverse. It is also providing more employment opportunities, attracting young, eager professionals.
In this episode, we follow the story of Liu Yizhu, a millennial professional from Qiongzhong, a county located in the center of Hainan Province. Liu has had a decade of experience working in the eldercare industry since graduating in 2014, despite nearly quitting in the early days. She has provided palliative care to more than 20 seniors with professionalism and patience, experiences that have shaped her attitude to life. Now director of the IFun Seniors Care Guoxing Nursing Home, a government-funded community eldercare facility managed by industry specialists, she leads a team of innovative and passionate millennials dedicated to the daily care, rehabilitation, and enrichment of seniors. Together, she and her team bring sunrise into the sunset of their elderly clients’ lives, contributing their youthful energy to the eldercare profession as they explore and craft fresh solutions to the global problem of an aging society.
