It's the official Start of Summer - 立夏 Lìxià - the 7th of China's 24 solar terms. The air is filled with the sweetness of ripening fruit here in Sanya, with exotic yellow and red dragon fruit, crisp wax apples, and even grapes all ripe and ready to eat. Let's have a wander around Sanya this June and have a bite of each!

1. Yellow Dragon Fruit
The golden orbs poking out from the sea of green in Liuluo Yellow Dragon Fruit Agricultural Base in Tailou Village are the stars here - Yellow Dragon Fruit. The agricultural project in Tailou Village began in 2019, and now covers an area of over 260,000 square meters. As part of China's One Village, One Product (OVOP) program, which aims to develop the rural economy and boost local agriculture, Tailou Village brings farmers hope. Yellow Dragon Fruit, also known as yellow pitaya, is a tropical fruit native to Ecuador. The sweet, soft fruit provides a variety of vitamins and fiber to regulate the digestive tract and reduce inflammation.

2.Wax apple

Gaoshan Village has more than 130,000 square meters devoted to the cultivation of wax apples. "The OVOP program has led to significant job creation in local communities, while keeping Gaoshan Village strong for future generations. We also see it as an opportunity to increase the incomes of local families and to promote the Gaoshan wax apple brand," said Mr. Feng, the head of Gaoshan Village. Wax apples grow on tropical trees and belong to the guava family. They are rich in vitamin B and vitamin C, and are also almost 80% water. They are excellent for hydration and eating them can lead to healthy, clear skin.

3. Red Dragon Fruit
The Red Dragon Fruit Agricultural Base in Tailou Village, Tianya District, Sanya.
The Red Dragon Fruit Agricultural Base in Tailou Village covers more than 730,000 square meters. The Red Dragon Fruit grown here benefits from the excellent ecological environment, which makes the fruit juicier and gives it a sweeter flavor. Red Dragon fruit is a good source of vitamin C and fiber, and also contains plant protein and anthocyanins, which are rarely found in plants and may benefit memory and brain health.
4. Grapes
The vineyard in the village of Heitu covers an area of approximately 130,000 square meters, and boasts a wide variety of grapes. Thanks to the geographic location of the village, with east to south exposure and well-drained soils, the vineyard produces grapes with a pleasant and well-balanced sweet-sour flavor. It also brings a significant increase in income to the farmers, as the vineyard attracts quite a few visitors.
