The 2023 (3rd) Hainan Brocade and Embroidery World Culture Week activities begin on April 27th with the opening ceremony held in Haikou.
In addition to the opening ceremony, this year’s Culture Week activities also include a themed forum and an exhibition of high quality works, putting the magnificent interplay of traditional culture and modern fashion on display.
During the 2023 Culture Week, the important role that cultural heritage plays in the integration of culture and tourism as well as the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port will be explored through the medium of brocade and embroidery.

To give more people the opportunity to learn about and enjoy the exquisite brocade culture of China and the world, all of this year’s Culture Week activities are open to the public at no charge. There is no need to book tickets in advance, so during the upcoming May Day holiday, take a cultural journey through the brocade and embroidery of Hainan!
Highlight 1: Opening Ceremony
When: 20:00 - 21:00. April 27, 2023
Where: Hainan Performing Arts Centre Square
The Opening Ceremony showcases national intangible cultural heritage brocade and embroidery products including Miao embroidery and dyeing, Tibetan Bangdian aprons and rugs, and other traditional folk clothing, creating a unique cultural cornucopia.

Highlight 2: Intangible Cultural Heritage Traditional Weaving, Embroidery, Printing, and Dyeing Exhibition
When: 10:00 - 20:00, April 27 - May 3, 2023
Where: Hainan Library
This year’s exhibition puts some of the best examples of China’s national intangible cultural heritage products on display, combining static exhibitions with dynamic, live, on-site displays in a high-level professional show with national and even international influence.

Please note: From 10:00 - 18:00 on April 27 - May 1, heritage representatives will be on site to give in-person demonstrations. Those interested in viewing these live displays should be sure to visit during these times.
Highlight 3: Themed Forum
When: 9:00 - 12:00, April 28, 2023
Where: Hainan Library Lecture Hall
At the Culture Week themed forum, officials and experts from various government departments and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association, as well as intangible cultural heritage inheritance representatives, will gather to discuss the future development of the brocade and embroidery industry.
