Located in Danzhou City in tropical Hainan Province, the Hainan Xinying Mangrove National Wetland Park is China's 1st coastal mangrove national wetland park. Its pristine ecological environment draws flock upon flock of migratory birds to roost for the winter. Over 70 first- and second-class nationally protected species of bird either spend the winter here or pass through on their way elsewhere. Of the mangroves that thrive here are two special species: the Rhizophora × lamarckii hybrid, a species newly recorded in China, and a dense area of Oriental Mangrove (Bruguiera gymnorhiza), which is rarely found in China.
