Located in the south-central part of Hainan Island, Wuzhishan City is inhabited by the Li and Miao ethnic minority groups.

Wuzhi Mountain, from which the city gets its name, is the province’s highest mountain. It’s a symbol of Hainan Island, with its five peaks looking like five fingers.

Embraced by dense tropical forests, the folded mountain landscape is one of the island's core ecological areas. So, the city is also called the "Jade Mountain City”.
