Tunchang County (pop.255,400) is located in the central north of Hainan Island, with a total area of 1231 square km² .

Tunchang is the only hilly area in Hainan, providing favorable natural conditions for the tropical crops, flowers and winter melons.

The county produces agarwood, used both as a fragrance and an ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine.
