Located in the southwestern part of the island, Dongfang City (pop. 444,500) with a total area of 2,272km². It is the third largest coastal city on Hainan. Dongfang has a long and storied history dating back roughly 2,100 years. It is one of Hainan's important energy and industrial bases, and the “Hometown of Chinese Rosewood”.
