It was announced at a recent press conference detailing the Yangpu Port Master Plan (2024-2035) that by the end of 2025, the port's container cargo throughput is expected to exceed 3.5 million TEUs. Additionally, the port will have the capacity to accommodate the world's largest 200,000-ton container ship and will open an international trunk route to the USA.

Yangpu is one of China's 30 port-type national logistics hub host cities and is the only such hub centered on the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP). The Plan, which was approved by China's Ministry of Transport and the People's Government of Hainan Province on December 30, 2024, opens up a new stage in Yangpu Port's development.
According to the Plan, by the end of 2027, a regional ship refueling center for the Beibu Gulf and a two-way procurement center for domestic and international customers will be initially established, and Yangpu Port will be transformed into a southern hub for north-south routes and an eastern hub for east-west routes. By 2035, the port's annual throughput will reach 225 million tons, including container cargo of 12 million TEUs, becoming a fully functional international hub port that connects the world, is free and convenient, open and inclusive, safe and efficient, intelligent and green, and has strong global resource allocation capabilities and distinctive FTP characteristics.
In terms of the overall port layout planning, Yangpu Port will maintain its overall development pattern of "one port with three zones," i.e., three port zones—Yangpu, Shentou, and Houshui Bay—falling under the umbrella of "Yangpu Port." The planned terminal shoreline is about 44 kilometers long, with a land area of about 24 million square meters, providing enough space for roughly 146 berths.
