Junket With Nearly 30 High-Level Representatives of Multinational Companies Visits Qionghai

On February 17th, nearly 30 senior executives of well-known multinational companies attending the joint survey team of the 2023 “Walking Davos” Survey in Hainan (themed “Seeking High-level Opening-up and Building a World-class Free Trade Port”) traveled to Qionghai and conducted field surveys at the Window of the World’s Tropical Fruits, the Boao Hope City “Ever Lasting” International Innovative Medical Exhibition, and the Boao Yiling Life Quality Improvement Center. Members of the junket learned about Qionghai’s steadfast efforts at promoting the local business environment and high-quality construction and setting an example for other coastal cities.

The Hainan Free Trade Port (Hainan FTP) is working to develop four leading industries, (i.e. tourism, modern service, high-tech and efficient agriculture with tropical characteristics) while focusing on trade and investment liberalization and facilitation.

Located on the east coast of Hainan Province, Qionghai is often given a variety of honorary titles such as the “Hometown of Culture”, the “Hometown of Overseas Chinese” and the “Hometown of Courtesy”. Known for being the location that gave birth to China's famous Red Detachment of Women, it is also the permanent site of the Boao Forum for Asia, and one of the country's top destinations for hot springs. The local medical project Boao Hope City has become a fast lane for international innovative medical instruments to enter China.

The Window of the World’s Tropical Fruits (a key project of the National Agricultural Foreign Development and Cooperation Pilot Zone built by Qionghai) integrates the introduction and breeding of the world’s new and exotic fruits, demonstration planting, science popularization, and sightseeing. After 10 years of development, the base has introduced more than 468 kinds of new and exotic tropical fruits of which more than 300 varieties (such as yellow pitaya, ice cream fruit, and finger lemon) have been successfully planted in Hainan. Finger lemon—the base's "king of tropical fruits"—won the 2021 China Green Food Class A Product certification, and the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Silver Award, and completed the EU's Global Good Agricultural Practices (GGAP) certification. Providing good economic benefits, nearly 20 kinds of new varieties of fresh fruits (such as finger lemon, ice cream fruit, and yellow pitaya)first began industrial-scale planting from here.

ZHENG Minli (a member of the survey team from Guangxi) said, “It’s my first time to see so many new and exotic tropical fruits. They are novel and very different. I hope Hainan will use this base to promote the seedlings that have been planted successfully in Hainan to the rest of southern China so that more people can taste these new and exotic fruits.”

In Qionghai, the junket also visited the Boao Hope City “Ever Lasting” International Innovative Medical Exhibition. In "unlocking the development code" of Hope City, all the members got the opportunity to witness some of the world's most advanced medical instruments. After being comprehensively introduced to and understanding the excellent policies, industrial development plans, and development results of Hope City, many junket members turned to their personal social media platforms to share the vigor and vitality of Boao Hope City with the world.

Hope City has established a close cooperative relationship with the world’s top 30 medical instrument companies and the “Ever Lasting” International Innovative Medical Exhibition has attracted 80 international innovative medical instrument manufacturers from 16 countries, to exhibit 810 kinds of innovative medical instruments (including 441 which haven’t been put on the China market and 394 which were exhibited in China for the first time). Up to now, Hope City has permission to use nearly 300 kinds of innovative medical instruments that have not otherwise been put on the China market. It has basically realized internationally advanced medical technology, instruments, and drugs and become the main channel to promote medical and health consumption in China.

“Boao Hope City has made a bold innovation that leads China’s general health sector. Its industrial layout will lead the future development trend of China’s general health industry and facilitate medical services for senior people. It is also a fertile investment land for those companies engaged in general health,” said MA Kang (Vice President of Greater China, RGE).

Stating that RGE—who currently do not have any projects in Hainan—has invested in China for more than 20 years (with a total investment of more than 80 billion yuan), he felt that the FTP policies introduced at the event are very attractive (especially Hainan’s preferential industrial policies and city- and county-level industrial layout) and will provide a reference for RGE’s future investment on the island.

At the Boao Yiling Life Quality Improvement Center, junket members earnestly visited and were wowed by each project and characteristic service.

It mainly targets middle- and high-end domestic and international clientele and carries out a combination of new medical technology, characteristic treatment, disease prevention, health management, health preservation and rehabilitation, cosmetic surgery, spiritual healing, medical tourism, and vacationing.

“It’s not so much a conservation center as a place of self-cultivation hidden among hospitals.” Everyone spoke highly of Yiling’s innovative efforts and achievements in the general health industry.

Building a new platform for the exchanges and cooperation between local governments and companies and multinational company representatives, the junket saw more than 20 organizations conduct surveys in Haikou, Sanya, Danzhou, and Qionghai, including HSBC (China), Marriott, Siemens Energy, Universal Parks and Resorts, Oerlikon (China), and nearly 30 high-level representatives of multinational companies).
