Bird's eye view of Hainan's Bochao Village Fishing Port

Bochao Village, Guangcun Town, Danzhou City, in western Hainan, is located on a small peninsula that stretches into the Beibu Gulf on the easternmost section of the Danzhou coastline, across the water from Lingao’s Xinying Town. This century-old fishing village is a transportation hub for coastal residents of Lingao and Danzhou.

Bochao Village has 3,102 residents who mainly work in the fishing and aquaculture industries. A few people have transportation vessels, which carry local specialties to Beihai, Zhanjiang, Haikou, and other ports, and bring bricks, pots, and other necessities back to Bochao.

Since Bochao Village established a fishery cooperative in recent years, local incomes have been on the rise. The fishery cooperative has brought residents together to build aquaculture rafts and purchases fresh deep sea fish caught by members, and then sells the fish in Haikou, Sanya, and other places, bringing the fishermen considerable income.

At present, the village has set up nearly 10 aquaculture rafts, and their combined annual sales volume is several thousand tons of seafood. Village residents rely on the sea to provide money for their children's schooling and to build beautiful, comfortable homes.

The village committee also encourages locals to build large boats for deep-sea fishing. At present, there are over 20 large-tonnage fishing boats in the village, and each boat brings in over 400,000 RMB in revenue annually. In recent years, Bochao Village has made improvements by adding cement roads, culture rooms, sports fields, and office buildings, and has become one of the earliest villages in Danzhou to be named a civilized ecological village.
