On April 13, BFA Hotel completed a 1 million kWh green energy trade through the Southern Grid regional trading platform in Haikou City, capital of Hainan Province, meaning that all BFA venues will be supplied with 100% green energy.
Green energy is any energy type that is generated from natural resources, such as sunlight, wind, or water. It often comes from renewable energy sources, although there are some differences between renewable and green energy. The key to these energy resources is that they don’t harm the environment through factors such as releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. At present, domestic green energy is mainly based on solar photovoltaic power and wind power generation.

"For green development and environment protection, the electric company and the power trading center have developed a green electricity trading platform. This is the first time for the Boao Forum for Asia venue to use green energy," said Ouyang Qinglun, Manager of the Engineering Department of the BFA Hotel.
"This is also the first green energy transaction that has ever been made in Hainan, with a transfer of 1 million kWh, which is equivalent to reducing the burning of standard coal by about 300 tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 750 tons," explained Chen Xiaowen, of the Marketing Planning Department of the power trading center.
The Hainan Power Grid Corporation has invested nearly CNY 10 million to provide services for the charging pile project for new energy vehicle support at the BFA. To ensure the safety of the green power supply at BFA, the company supports 500 kV network lines and has also upgraded smart sensing terminals at the hotel and other essential sites to monitor the whole process.
