2022 Wenchang Food Culture Festival. WENCHANG MULTIMEDIA CENTER

On January 25, the launching ceremony of 2022 Wenchang Food Culture Festival was held. At the Festival, manufacturers, businessmen, and food operators from Hainan and other provinces offer their tastiest fare. Attendees can celebrate Spring Festival by purchasing excellent products, eating great food, and appreciating the unique culture of Wenchang and Hainan.

This Festival will be open from Jan. 23 to Jan. 30 and from Feb. 2 to Feb. 5 with four themed areas, the Spring Festival shopping market, the special agricultural product market, the flower market, and the food market.

In the Spring Festival shopping market, visitors can enjoy food, buy great local products, and enjoy shopping for nuts, fruits, sweets, tea, Spring Couplets, Chinese character "fu" (meaning blessing or happiness) decorations, and Hainan-style coconut-based foods. In the front of the Spring Couplets booth, calligraphers are writing beautiful good wishes to be hung at the entryway of each home for the New Year. These must-have items are popular gifts for friends and relatives.

In the special agricultural product market, there is a wide variety of produce from the area of Wenchang, including beef jerky from Jinshan, Zaopocu from Puqian, handmade brown sugar from Penglai, and Wenchang Chicken from Tanniu. Here, you can taste all the fresh, vibrant flavors of Wenchang.  

In the flower market, colorful flowers and kumquat trees are for sale. These plants symbolize good luck and happiness, and are popular home decor during Spring Festival.

In the food market, popular dishes from Wenchang and all over China are on offer, such as stinky tofu from Changsha,  Roujiamo (pork belly buns) and Liangpi (cold wheat noodles with chili and vinegar sauce) from Shaanxi, Chinese-style barbecue, and much more. What a great way to satisfy your hungry belly after a long day of shopping!

In addition to the four markets, the festival also includes information about local Wenchang culture and places to visit. There is also a stage where folk arts performances are staged. From Jan 23 to 30, there are different shows here each day.

At the Festival there is also a Wenchang Intangible Cultural Heritage display, Hainan Opera performances, Hainan Puppet Shows, Lion Dancing, WeChat lotteries, and many other exciting activities.
