International Trade Mediation & Arbitration Center set up in Hainan

A mediation and arbitration center for international trade opened at the Hainan International Arbitration Court in Haikou, the capital city of south China's Hainan Province, on Wednesday.

The center will focus on the promotion of a mediation and arbitration system, as well as providing services for arbitration parties involved in arbitration cases to resolve issues international trade activities.

Based in the Hainan International Arbitration Court, where about one-third of the mediators are employed from abroad, the center will provide professional, international mediation lectures and training for member enterprises.

Considered as a further step in implementing the master plan for the Hainan Free Trade Port issued last June, the opening of the center is aimed at helping to create a convenient, law-based, international business environment in the Hainan FTP so as to accelerate innovative development in the field of international trade through commercial arbitration and mediation.

"A sound, improved dispute mediation and arbitration mechanism can show investors that Hainan offers a promising business environment," said Wang Xuelin, Chairman of the Hainan International Arbitration Court, adding that the court will send over 1,000 mediators to offer guidance for the prevention of corporate disputes, the improvement of contract terms, and the resolutions of frequent disputes in international trade.
