HAIKOU, August 25. /TASS/. The administrative center of Hainan, Haikou, created a new efficient food waste transportation system. According to the "Hainan Daily", now the waste is taken out of residential areas and from places with lots of restaurants on a regular basis according to the chosen routes.
According to the newspaper, each of these directions is equipped with "stops" — special points that receive waste daily in the morning from 09:00 to 09:30. In total, there are 40 such routes in Haikou.
As a spokesman for a waste transportation company explained, such regularity is required so that residents "have no doubt that the system is working properly, and also to make sure that pre-sorting of discarded food products at home is really needed." Each garbage truck is equipped with a GPS navigator that allows to track in real time whether the driver is on schedule.
It is assumed that the new system will avoid long-term storage of food waste, which in the subtropical conditions could lead to the emergence of infection sources.
All waste in China is subject to disposal according to four categories — food, recyclable, hazardous and other types of waste. Residents must prepare packages with discarded items by themselves in accordance with the designated classification. The correct sorting is monitored by employees of warehouses and removal points, available in every yard. Such a system began to be implemented in early 2020, and gradually the country residents are getting used to the new rules set by the Chinese government.
