Midsummer is when the lotus flowers bloom. In the Wuyuanhe National Wetland Park in Haikou, a lotus pond larger than a football field is completely covered in lotus blossoms. Birds are sheltering in the lotus leaves, ducks are swimming around, and bees are busily flying from flower to flower. According to local lotus farmers, this is the best year for lotus in the last 20 years.
