On the afternoon of Feb. 25, HIMC discovered that Haikou’s Fucheng Drum Tower has taken on a new look since restoration began in July 2019.

Come see a part of Haikou's history! Fucheng Drum Tower, an ancient civil gate tower, is located in Haikou’s ancient city wall in Fucheng Gulou Historic Street, Qiongshan District, Haikou. Fucheng Drum Tower, initially named Qiaolou Building, is also known as Wenming Building. The Fucheng Drum Tower was built by Hainan Garrison’s commander Wang You in 1372, which was the 5th year of the Ming Hongwu Dynasty. It was renovated many times during the Ming and Qing Dynasty periods. The base was extended in 1481, the 17th year of the Ming Chenghua Dynasty. According to the Hainan Garrison Record and Qiongshan County Record, Fucheng was the encampment of the Hainan Garrison, and had a total of four city gates facing east, west, south and north. This ancient installation was garrisoned by massive forces who were charged with inspecting and monitoring circumstances inside and outside the city, and maintained the social security in ancient times.
