To encourage patients who have confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus pneumonia and are being treated at a Wuhan mobile cabin hospital, nurses from Hainan staged a Danzhou Diaosheng performance, a style of local folk songs renowned for its beautiful singing.
The cabin hospitals admit only patients diagnosed with mild symptoms and the patient are lying on the bed for a long time without any entertainment, said Wu Haiyan, a nurse at the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hainan Province who was a member of the Hainan medical team sent to support Wuhan.
Over time, the patients may become anxious, which is bad for their recovery, added Wu.
In addition to the daily care services, the nursing team also offers psychological counseling for patients in the cabin hospital, as well as organize the patients to do exercise activities and receive acupressure to enhance their physical fitness.
Wu and the other nurses also guide the patients to do Baduanjin (the Eight Pieces of Brocade), one of the most common forms of Chinese qigong used as exercise.
The exercise, allowing patients to move their joints and muscles, can reduce stress, improve body metabolism, strengthen cardiopulmonary function, and promote blood circulation, as well as improve the physiological functions of the human body. It has received wide praise among patients.
