We spent a day with the first ever Qiong Opera troupe in Hainan to be made up entirely of international students. Experiencing everything from makeup to costume preparation and performance, the event—organized by the Hainan International Cultural Exchange Center and Hainan Medical University School of International Education—marked a fusion of Hainan’s intangible cultural heritage and global culture and opens new pathways for promoting Hainan’s culture abroad.
