One of the most anticipated events of the first China (Hainan) Dongpo Cultural Tourism Festival to be held in the capital city of China’s southern island province of Hainan will be the Dongpo cultural gourmet feast opening at the new shopping and dining complex at the western end of Haidian 3rd Street (near the Hainan University South Gate Night Market) from February 16 to March 16.
According to an organizer of the event—the feast will involve three themed activities: the Dongpo Cuisine Culture Seminar, Chinese & Hainan Famous Snacks Exhibition, and four weeks of how Dongpo Cuisine has interacted over the centuries with each of China's four major cuisines. During each of these thematic activities, food promotions, cooking competitions, cultural performances, Dongpo cultural products market fairs, and more will keep attendees entertained.
Additionally, in order to promote Dongpo cuisine culture, a Dongpo-themed restaurant located at the complex will begin operation on February 16. The restaurant's special offer for foodies will include a number of different set menus including more than 100 delicacies created from records and recipes left behind by Su Dongpo.
Scheduled to open on February 18, in Haikou—the capital of Hainan Province—the first China (Hainan) Dongpo Cultural Tourism Festival is in honor of renowned Song Dynasty poet, statesman and gastronome Su Dongpo. Revered in many places in China, he spent several years exiled to the island and is known locally for the culture and teaching which he brought with him as well as many famous dishes (including Dongpo Pork, Dongpo Tofu, and Dongpo Porridge) which he created himself.
