“Over 38 years, we have traversed long distances over mountains tracking the Hainan Gibbon. Now, its population has grown to 36 individuals.”
On "The Rainforest at a Glance" Multilingual Public Lecture presented by the 2nd series of "Insight" & "Science on Tap", Mr. Chen Qing, Assistant Forestry Engineer at the Bawang Ridge Branch Office of the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park Administration, shared his stories with the Hainan gibbons.
Chen Qing first became acquainted with the Hainan Gibbon back in 1984. The 38 years since then, deep in the rainforest engaged in Hainan Gibbon monitoring and conservation work, seem to have flown by. He was also engaged plant classification and identification and performed field investigations, gleaning valuable information regarding gibbon conservation through his research and creating a solid foundation for future work.
Waking up to the sound of the gibbon calls and tucking in for the night after the sun sets. For Chen Qing, gibbon conservation work was never just a job, but a lifelong passion and pursuit.
