The passion fruit, with high levels of vitamin A and C, is a beneficial fruit with a healthful nutrition profile. The golden passion fruit differs in appearance from other passion fruit varieties, with a round or somewhat egglike shape, and a yellow outer skin. The interior of the rind has soft creamy white walls encasing an exceptionally juicy yellow-orange pulp and many small brown seeds.

The golden passion fruit, which offers sweet, sour, and bright tropical flavors, is grown in Rongbang Township, Baisha Li Autonomous County. It has conquered the taste buds of a number of foodies and become a hot item on the market.

Golden passion fruit is now in season in Rongbang Township.

Actually, passion fruit was not grown in Rongbang Township until 2017. With dense vegetation, deep soil, and fertile land, Rongbang is a typical agricultural township with over 17,000 people, more than 95% of whom are engaged in agriculture.

According to Yang Yonghong, Head of Rongbang Township, locals started to plant tropical fruits such as passion fruit in 2017, changing the previous agricultural structure which focused on rubber, sugarcane, and rice.

Thanks to the similar climate conditions between Rongbang Township and Brazil, where passion fruit originated, golden passion fruit grows very well in the area and has become one of the six unique, efficient industries supported by the local government.

Locals are happy to see the golden passion fruit harvest in Rongbang Township.

In 2019, Fu Junwei, a local entrepreneur, decided to invest in cultivating golden passion fruit in Rongbang Township in cooperation with the township government and underprivileged locals. In addition, he invited experts from China's Taiwan region to teach locals how to grow golden passion fruit by irrigating the fields with biological bacteria enzymes created by mixing milk, eggs, brown sugar, seaweed powder, and other nutrients. This improved the quality of the fruit, making it juicier and more flavorful.

As of July 2020, the passion fruit agricultural base in Rongbang Township covered a total of 1,480 mu (about 98.7 hectares), and has produced a total of 650,000 kilograms of golden passion fruit as of June 2021. The golden passion fruit brand in Rongbang Town is not only becoming more and more well-known, but is also bringing prosperity to the local people.
