The world’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered very large crude carrier (VLCC) , the “Yuan Rui Yang”, was delivered at China’s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) and finished registration on Monday. This is the fourth international vessel with a deadweight over 300,000 tons registered at Yangpu Port in the Hainan Free Trade Port.

As of February 28, a total of 32 international vessels have been registered in China’s Yangpu Port, with a total of deadweight of 5.15 million tons, the second highest total in the country.

Delivered to the COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation, the 333 meter long vessel is equipped with WinGD’s low-pressure dual-fuel main engine and features domestically-made corrosion-resistant steel, which was used to replace PSPC coating protection in the ship’s structural design for the first time.

The delivery of the “Yuan Rui Yang” means that the COSCO Shipping Group has taken the lead in the application of clean energy and energy-saving technology in large vessels around the world.

China issued the master plan for the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port in June 2020, giving the island province a number of open policies to further facilitate the free flow of transportation, such as the approval of ship registration at Yangpu Port. The newly delivered vessel was the seventh international transport ship built in the Chinese mainland eligible for export tax rebates in the Hainan Free Trade Port.
