The ground breaking ceremony of the Haikou Branch of the China Mobile Internet Data Center (IDC) project was held on June 30, in the Jiangdong New Area, Haikou, China’s Hainan Province.
The RMB 580 million investment project is an important measure for China Mobile, a wireless carrier that provides mobile voice and multimedia services, as it actively participates in the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port. It is also an indispensable part of the international submarine cable hub project, which is an effective solution to the problem of resource shortages in the communication industry.
The total construction area of the project is about 30,000 square meters, which includes a 5-story data center and a 1-story power center. The project will follow green and low-carbon development concepts, reducing carbon emissions by about 6,000 tons per year.
After it opens, the Data Center will help develop the Hainan Free Trade Port into a leading international submarine cable hub and network exchange center in the Asia-Pacific region. Meanwhile, it will also provide safe, reliable data center resources as well as support strong information and data processing capabilities for investment, finance, Internet, education, and other industries in Hainan.
At present, the project has obtained a construction permit and is expected to be completed in 2023.
