On May 7, a Liberian-flagged 10,000-ton ship arrived in Yangpu, in China’s southern province of Hainan, and entry clearance procedures were quickly handled for the ship by the port customs authorities. Despite the current impact of the pandemic, the Yangpu Port’s business volume is still increasing. So far this year, the Yangpu has inspected more than 1,600 ships entering or exiting the port, and over 23,000 ship personnel have arrived in or departed from the port.
Since pre-inspection had already been carried out through an online application system, after the Liberian ship arrived at Yangpu, entry and customs clearance procedures for the ship were completed within 15 minutes. This system has greatly shortened the time required for these procedures, and radically improved the port’s customs clearance efficiency. Twenty Chinese crew members were then cleared to either disembark or board the ship safely.
In the future, Yangpu will continue to implement pandemic prevention and control measures, using online systems to reduce face-to-face contact and Covid-19 infection risk. The port will continue to improve port risk management and control and help companies to find practical solutions to resuming work and production.
