2023 is coming to an end, and 2024 is on the horizon. Looking back and looking forward, everyone has had positive and negative feelings. As witnesses of the times gone by, what new gains and thoughts have you had this year? Did they leave deep impressions or bring new understandings?

Time flows silently but inexorably. Everyone has their own unique and irreplaceable 2023 story. Sharing is a powerful force, and our personal insights and experiences will likely encourage and guide others and help light the way forward. Hainan Integrated Media Center, in collaboration with the Hainan International Media Center, is jointly launching the “My 2023, My Hainan Story” series of reports to share these heart-warming stories.

Italian Natan Colombo first set foot on Hainan Island ten years ago to see the beautiful scenery of Sanya for himself. He was wowed by the deep blue sea, golden beaches, and colorful sunsets. After obtaining his doctorate at the China University of Political Science and Law, he settled down as a lecturer of economics and law at Hainan Tropical Ocean University in Sanya.

Teaching in China has given Natan a real sense of accomplishment. In addition to helping Chinese students develop the skills and qualities they will need in their future careers, he has also gained a deeper insight into their dreams and ambitions, allowing him to better observe and understand China's development.

Harmonious, fulfilling, and inspirational are the three words Natan uses to describe his 2023. He said that he has been deeply inspired by his students and the wonderful people he’s met this past year. Looking forward to 2024, he is hoping to help bring about more educational cooperation and exchanges between China and Italy, and travel more to explore China’s fascinating culture.
