During winter, a large number of migratory birds fly south, like recently increasing numbers of egrets spotted in Haikou Bay. Early in the morning, flocks of egrets fly here to feed on the water. These dancing birds have become one of the most beautiful sights in Haikou Bay.

Egrets are herons that are classified as a national second-class protected species, and have white or buff plumage. They catch small fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and crustaceans in shallow waters, and have high requirements for a clean, safe environment.
