Located on the east coast of Haikou City, Jiangdong New Area is not only one of the key industrial parks of the Hainan Free Trade Port, but has also become a green haven for all kinds of birds and other creatures.
The area features a beautiful 31-kilometer coastline, 90 square kilometers of wetlands, and a dense river network.
Over the past years, various ecological restoration projects have been carried out here, including mangrove conservation at Dongzhaigang (Dongzhai Port), water management at Maiya and Furong Rivers, and transforming artificial fishponds into environment-friendly wetland parks.

As the first mangrove nature reserve in China, Dongzhaigang Nature Reserve is home to a total of 26 species of mangroves (accounting for 97% of the total mangrove species nationwide). Thanks to the excellent environment, a total of 218 bird species have been spotted in the reserve, such as the Black-winged Stilt, the Marsh Sandpiper, the Spotted Redshank, and Egrets.
