The 18th Congress of the World Federation of Hainanese Associations will be November 14 - 16, 2025, in Penang, Malaysia, bringing overseas Chinese with Hainanese ancestry from the four corners together once again for their reunion. Extending a warm welcome to all delegates, "Suukee, Welcome to Penang" is launched as a theme song for the congress. In the Hainanese dialect of Chinese, "suukee" means "neighbor," and is used by people of Hainanese ancestry globally as greeting and symbol of mutual belonging.
Check out this video to listen to the sweet melody and moving lyrics of this song, written by Malaysian overseas Chinese with Hainanese ancestry and recorded in collaboration with law students at Hainan University.
