Across mountains and seas, China’s Hainan and Catalonia, Spain, are joining hands once again.

In March 2026, the People's Government of Hainan Province and the Government of Catalonia signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation. In September 2026, Òscar Ordeig i Molist, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of Catalonia, led a delegation to Hainan.

In an exclusive interview, Òscar Ordeig i Molist noted that Hainan and Catalonia share similar strengths in tourism and the agri-food industry. He said both sides should work together and strive to make Hainan and Catalonia major players in agriculture.
