Hainan Daily Press Group and Star Media Group signed a new strategic cooperation agreement in Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 28, expanding collaboration in content production, China-Malaysia economic and cultural events, media convergence and industrial operation, and international communication.

Hainan Daily Press Group and Star Media Group sign a memorandum of strategic cooperation, launching a new round of collaboration between the two sides.
The two sides first reached a preliminary cooperation agreement in November 2025. Since then, Hainan International Media Center (HIMC), through its ASEAN liaison center, has worked with Star Media Group on the interview series “New Land & Sea Trade Opportunities: Investing in the Hainan FTP.” The five episodes, each about six minutes long, introduce policies and investment opportunities in the Hainan FTP to ASEAN and international investors.
The series premiered on June 18, 2026, six months after Hainan launched island-wide independent customs operations, on Star Media Group platforms including The Star TV, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn, drawing more than 4 million views.
“The program has laid a foundation for our future cooperation,” said Wong Foon Meng, chairman of Star Media Group. “We look forward to more collaboration in content exchange, multimedia production and cross-border brand promotion.”
Shang Lin, publisher of Hainan Daily Press Group, said the group will further deepen cooperation with Star Media Group.
Under the new agreement, the two sides will jointly produce more feature programs and documentaries on trade, culture, tourism and education; organize China-Malaysia trade forums and investment promotion events, creating a platform for ASEAN businesses looking to enter the Chinese market or work with Hainan; exchange expertise in digital platform development, new media products and artificial intelligence applications; and establish a regular coordination mechanism.
