On August 1, 2025, the Hainan International Media Center (HIMC) ASEAN Liaison Center was inaugurated in Kuala Lumpur, and on the same day established a cooperative partnership with Bernama, Malaysia‘s national news agency. Over the past year, the two sides have collaborated in content co-creation, channel sharing, and joint research, documenting the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port since the start of island-wide special customs operations.

Bernama’s reporting team visited the Haikou Qilou Historical & Cultural Quarter, Fullsing Internet Innovation Park, Yangpu Port, Boao Lecong International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, Lingshui Li‘an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone, and Wanning Riyue Bay, covering more than ten sectors including the digital economy, cross-border healthcare, international education, marine tourism, and the coffee industry. The co-produced feature series Charming Hainan, Enchanting Malaysia and the flagship documentary 2026: Towards the Hainan Free Trade Port capture the key outcomes of this year-long partnership.

The documentary 2026: Towards the Hainan Free Trade Port was officially launched on August 27 and is being distributed across ASEAN through Bernama's full media network. Meanwhile, cooperation in joint research, content exchange, and personnel visits is steadily progressing.
