More than a thousand years ago, Lady Xian crossed the sea to Ya Prefecture, today’s Sanya, Hainan.
Through her efforts, the island was brought back into the country’s system of governance. She opened up new land, promoted education, and supported local production, helping transform this once-isolated island into a land shaped by culture, order and learning.
Her belief, “I served three dynasties with one loyal heart,” has lived on for generations. Across Hainan, more than 400 temples and memorial halls still carry her memory.
Rivers run on. The sea never rests. Born by the ocean, the people of Hainan continue to ride the waves of a new era, moving forward with courage, resilience and an enduring spirit.
