The launch ceremony for Hainan's first aircraft dismantling project within the Free Trade Port (FTP) was recently hosted at a hangar in Haikou. This event marks a major milestone in Hainan's aviation sector, as it successfully establishes a complete aircraft-dismantling capability.

Aircraft dismantling is a vital part of the downstream aviation industry and is essential to the aviation circular economy. By disassembling retired aircraft, performing inspections, and refurbishing, valuable materials, spare parts, and airframe components can be recovered and recycled. This sector offers significant economic and environmental benefits and enhances the competitiveness of Hainan's aviation maintenance industry.

The project is being carried out by Grand China Aviation Maintenance Services Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of HNA Technic under HNA Aviation Group.

Full aircraft dismantling is a specialized aviation engineering service that demands strict adherence to technical standards, operational procedures, facilities, and environmental management. Before starting, the project team created detailed dismantling plans, safety management protocols, and environmental protection measures.

Aircraft structures, engines, onboard equipment, and spare parts will be categorized for dismantling, undergo detailed inspections, and be stored following grading standards to maximize recycling and reuse of aviation resources.

The initiation of Hainan's first aircraft dismantling project showcases the province's ability to foster an aviation circular economy. It is also anticipated to draw more upstream and downstream aviation companies to Hainan, promoting coordinated growth in sectors such as aviation logistics, aircraft materials trading, and aircraft maintenance services.

Previously, Hainan had established a mature bonded aircraft maintenance business for overseas aircraft and had gained extensive experience in aviation operations and maintenance services.

With the addition of aircraft dismantling, the province has established a comprehensive aviation maintenance ecosystem. This covers aircraft maintenance, modification and upgrading, full aircraft dismantling, and recycling of aviation materials, thereby enhancing the overall aviation industry landscape in the Hainan FTP.
