Can you get an authentic American burger in old town, Chengmai?
Hinew.cn, Nanguo Metropolis Daily, and the Hainan International Media Center jointly present the fourth episode of the micro-documentary series FTP Shopkeepers: Expat Entrepreneurs, titled ‘The Owner of an American Diner in Chengmai’.

American Patrick Ballow fell in love with Chinese culture and took the Chinese name Lu Bu, sharing the moniker of his favorite Three Kingdoms hero.
After a journey from his hometown spanning mountains and seas, and making a stop in Guangdong, Patrick, just like the renowned poet Su Dongpo, arrived in Hainan. A foodie just like the poet of old, he decided to open an American-style burger joint in Chengmai - The Paddy Shack.

Patrick’s dedication to the cuisine of his homeland is evident in the star of the menu - the Classic American Burger. The cheese is melty, and the patty is cooked to perfection - one bite and you’ll be hooked!

The Paddy Shack, now a popular hangout for both locals and expats from around the world, embodies the laid-back vibes of the owner. In the small town world of Chengmai, living life to the fullest is the true meaning of freedom.

Who says dreams have to be grand? A small shop, brimming with the joy of everyday life, holds countless moments of genuine laughter and vibrant smiles. A shared passion connects people from all around the globe and shines a spotlight on the simple pleasures of the small town life.
