Hainan FTP: 554 million yuan in duty-free shopping during the Labor Day holiday

On May 6, Haikou Customs announced that during this year’s Labor Day holiday, a total of 554 million yuan was spent by 84,600 shoppers who purchased 441,700 items under the Hainan Island Departure Duty Free Shopping policy. Total spending increased by 10.4% over the previous year, the number of shoppers was up by 7.4%, and total number of items purchased also rose by 3.8% year on year.

During the Labor Day holiday, Haikou International Duty Free City welcomed large numbers of shoppers. A representative of the Market Operations Department said that “sales were very brisk during the first three days of the holiday. We improved manpower allocation and on-site guidance, ensuring smooth and orderly sales operations that met the needs of holiday travelers.”

Mr. Tang, head of the logistics department at Sanya International Duty-Free City, stated that the customs supervision model shortens cargo turnover time, enabling businesses to respond quickly to market sales and ensuring ample supply and efficient circulation of goods during the holiday.

To cope with increased passenger flows and consumer demands over the holiday, Haikou Customs proactively deployed special measures to increase convenience and improve services, applying ‘centralized + automated’ document review and remote video inspection models to ensure efficient and smooth processing of duty-free products. Thanks to automatic system verification and rapid release, popular items were able to quickly pass through customs and reach shelves, where they were quickly purchased by eager shoppers.
