During the 2026 Lantern Festival, cities and counties across Hainan Provinces curated an array of lively celebrations. From time-honored folk traditions to modern technological exhibits, from intangible cultural heritage to the blending of culture and tourism, both locals and visitors can enjoy a wide and vibrant cultural festival across the island.

HAIKOU CITY

Fucheng Flower Exchange Art Week

This year, on Lantern Festival (March 3), the Fucheng Flower Exchange Art Week will feature over ten unique folk and cultural activities.

These include lion dances celebrating spring, hands-on experiences of intangible heritage, the traditional "Zhuang Mapi" parade, drone shows, and a citywide flower exchange. Visitors can explore ancient streets and alleys, soaking in the timeless romance and warmth that have lasted for centuries.

Lantern Festival Fireworks Gala: Dual-Venue Innovation

The 2026 Haikou Lantern Festival Fireworks Gala will be staged on the evening of March 3 at Meiyuan Yacht Marina.

A drone performance is scheduled from 8:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Park. Using coordinated aerial light displays, it will highlight Haikou's cultural landmarks and popular scenic spots, lighting up the city's night sky with innovative technology and fostering a romantic, festive Lantern Festival ambiance.

From 9:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m., a fireworks show will light up Meiyuan Yacht Marina. Both residents and visitors can enjoy this free event at public viewing spots, such as the Haikou Bay Leisure Area, FUNBAY, Evergreen Park waterfront, Century Park's western waterfront, Huacai Plaza, Sky Mountain, and Poly Central Coast.

SANYA CITY

On March 3, Sanya will present a diverse and immersive Lantern Festival event at various venues.

Spring Tide Gallops In

Location: Nanshan Daxiaodongtian Scenic Area

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Activities: Activities will feature lantern riddles, Tai Chi performances, stilt-walking God of Wealth acts, and Sichuan face-changing shows, creating a festive atmosphere infused with traditional cultural charm.

Good Fortune at Tianya

Location: Tianya Haijiao Scenic Area

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Activities: Visitors can take part in lantern riddles, enjoy free tangyuan, try on Hanfu costumes, browse intangible cultural heritage exhibits, and walk through a themed festival market.

Ancient-Style Lantern Challenge

Location: Sanya Leisure Club Sea View Area

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Activities: An "Ancient-Style Lantern Challenge" event will invite participants to guess riddles, take part in blessing games, admire lantern displays, and make wishes for the coming year.

Lantern Glow at Maling

Location: Tianya Town

Time: Whole day (Subject to site conditions)

Activities: The "Lantern Glow at Maling" celebration will include a themed cultural market, a Hanfu parade, dragon lantern dances, fire pot stunts, and the sale of limited-edition cultural and creative products.

Lantern Glow Carnival

At Sanya Silk Road Paradise, the "Lantern Glow Carnival" will include intangible dragon and lion dances, fire-and-water stunt performances, fish lantern parades, illuminated lantern displays, DIY tangyuan workshops, river lantern blessing ceremonies, and an open-air "starry sky cinema," offering a fully immersive holiday experience. The park is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Activities: Activities will feature free Hanfu experiences including styling and makeup, fun pitch-pot and archery games, and traditional snacks such as candied hawthorn skewers, sugar painting art, and cotton candy.

Ma Dao Cheng Gong 2026 Sanya Haitang Lantern Festival

Location: Sanya Rice National Park

Time: March 3 - 8

Activities: Activities will include molten iron flower performances showcasing intangible cultural heritage, live equestrian shows, illuminated sightseeing train rides, a New Year cultural market, and scenic displays of illuminated rice fields and dinosaur-themed landscapes.

WANNING CITY

Wancheng Lantern Car Parade

Location: Zhennan Community

Time: Evening of March 3

On Lantern Festival night, Wancheng Town will be alive with the sounds of gongs and drums, along with a lively crowd. Residents will fill the streets, joining the lantern car procession and the "Nine Dragons Procession" as they weave through the town, celebrating this historic folk tradition that has been part of the community for generations.

Xinglong "Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity, and Joy" Night Market Parade

Location: Main Street Area of Xinglong 1951 Overseas Chinese-themed Night Market

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The four deities of "Fortune, Prosperity, Longevity, and Joy" will visit the Xinglong 1951 Overseas Chinese-themed Night Market. They will parade along the main street and through the Overseas Chinese Memory Square, personally handing out New Year blessings. If you see them, be sure to take a photo to lock in good luck for the new year.

The night market will include lantern riddle games where participants can win prizes by testing their knowledge. Additionally, visitors who spend CNY 100 at participating vendors can receive a free bowl of freshly made hot tangyuan, while supplies last on a first-come, first-served basis.

Xinglong Coffee Valley All-Day Carnival

Location: Xinglong Coffee Valley

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

This Lantern Festival, Xinglong Coffee Valley will host an all-day event themed "Overseas Chinese Coffee Meets Lantern Festival — Reunion at the Free Trade Port."

During the day, four themed chapters of stage performances will entertain visitors in turn. In the evening, the Coffee Lantern Riddle Carnival will present hidden surprises, and molten iron flower shows along with aerial flying displays will create spectacular visual treats.

Throughout the day, visitors can participate in hands-on craft activities to make their own Lantern Festival souvenirs.

Shenzhou Peninsula Lantern Festival Gala

Location: Inner Plaza of Sihai Ji, Shenzhou Peninsula (near the Lawn Plaza)

Time: 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

What kind of romance will blossom when the Lantern Festival encounters the seaside? Shenzhou Peninsula holds the answer. The 2026 Shenzhou Peninsula Lantern Festival Gala is about to begin. On a night filled with sea breezes and crashing waves, families and friends will come together to enjoy the gala and share in the festival's joy.
