Hainan Through Culture Ep. 2: Island Vitality at the Beginning of Spring

By HIMC/ HIMC / Updated:18:00,04-February-2026

Li Chun (Beginning of Spring), the first of China’s 24 solar terms, marks the return of life. Throughout China, traditions like “Bian Chunniu” (whipping effigies of bulls) and “Yao Chun” (eating spring pancake) are celebrated to welcome growing vitality and pray for a good harvest. On the tropical island of Hainan, however, the season has a unique charm. Rather than melting snow in the north, the sound of rustling palms and the ocean breeze better reflect the vibrant energy of spring.

The “Hainan Through Culture” series is jointly produced by the Hainan Integrated Media Center and the Hainan International Media Center, together with the School of Journalism, Communication, and Film and Television of Hainan Normal University and the AIGC Integrated International Communication Institute.
