On January 28, the "Coconut City International Salon" brought locals and local residents from around the world to celebrate the Lunar New Year and launch the "Haikou Yeah" International Talent Volunteer Program. This event was hosted by the Haikou Foreign Affairs Office. University students, teachers, and professionals gathered to welcome the holiday season, experience local culture, and share their hopes for the future.

Making Haikou more international and welcoming, the "Haikou Yeah" Program will connect multilingual volunteers with opportunities in government services, tourism, legal support, community outreach, and economic exchange.

First visiting cultural sites like the “qilou” area of the historic downtown and the Bo'ai South Road New Year’s Market, attendees also explored Haikou’s traditions through a guided English-language tour, and participated in interactive activities such as Qiong Opera, calligraphy, and coconut carving.

“Haikou is an open and inclusive city. I want to give back through volunteering,” said an Indonesian student from Hainan University.

Looking ahead, Haikou will continue to build bridges for cultural exchange, providing a place where diverse voices meet and blend, and jointly writing a new chapter for China’s “Coconut City.”
