The Port of Firsts | From 1 to 2500+: How Hainan is Redefining Global Aviation Maintenance One Plane at a Time

In the aviation industry, efficiency and cost are enduring concerns for airlines. As aircraft ground time continues to impose heavy operational pressure, airlines worldwide are always seeking more effective solutions.

In Hainan, China, a comprehensive aviation services platform integrating aircraft maintenance, parts supply, modification, painting, and technical training is profoundly redefining the value of maintenance operations and offering the industry a new option. By addressing long-standing “hassles” with precision and earning broad trust in the international market, Hainan’s one-stop aircraft maintenance base has charted a clear, innovative path of advancement.

This journey began with a systematic reshaping and integration of the traditional maintenance value chain. Leveraging Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP)'s "zero-tariff" policy framework, the base has translated policy dividends into tangible cost advantages for clients. By providing one-stop services ranging from heavy airframe inspections and component repair to complete aircraft painting, it has overcome the fragmented processes and long turnaround times of conventional models, resetting benchmarks for maintenance efficiency.

Its innovative "aviation materials supermarket" and bonded warehouse system have further compressed the procurement cycle for key parts from months to just days, sharply reducing aircraft downtime and turning efficiency gains into real operational value.

This logic of value redefinition has quickly been validated by the market and translated into measurable results. By the end of December 2025, HNA Technic had completed more than 2,500 aircraft maintenance tasks, over 300 full-aircraft paint jobs, and repairs on 63,000 aviation components at the one-stop base. Inbound maintenance and painting alone exceeded 200 aircraft. Today, its service network extends to nearly 50 domestic and international airlines and leasing companies, with a client base spanning Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

From its first overseas order in October 2022 for an Airbus A320 of Royal Air Philippines to serving close to 50 global customers today, the base’s growth has demonstrated the vitality of a value-driven model. Each step forward has been built on an accurate understanding of industry needs and the steady strengthening of its own service capabilities.

As Hainan FTP moves ahead with full implementation of island-wide special customs operations, a more transparent regulatory framework and a more convenient trading environment will bring fresh momentum to the base's development. Beyond delivering a cost-efficient "Hainan solution" for the global aviation industry, the base is emerging as an important hub linking international aviation markets through its solid service capacity. This value-redefining journey is set to continue and expand.
