Jochen Goller, a Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, has attended the World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC) for seven consecutive years. At the 2025 WNEVC held in Haikou, the capital city of China’s southern island-province of Hainan from September 27 to 29, Mr. Goller provided an in-depth analysis on the current circumstance of global automobile industry, shared BMW Group's "New Era" strategy, and put forward detailed suggestions on industrial collaborative development. A notable highlight was the emphasis on Hainan's potential role in BMW's future technology pilot initiatives.
According to Mr. Goller's analysis, the global automobile industry is currently at a special stage in terms of globalization. He emphasized that China's new energy automobile industry is not only ahead of Europe in terms of development momentum, but also a leading position of global market share. In his perspective, a key factor of China's successes on the automobile industry over the past two decades is achieving a long-term and sustainable complete industrial chain layout.
BMW is actively promoting technological openness and a diversified powertrain roadmap, in order to navigate ongoing industrial competition and technological transformation. Jochen Goller announced that BMW Group plans to push over 40 new or upgraded vehicle models by the end of 2027. These vehicles will incorporate such innovative technologies as BMW Panoramic Vision iDrive, the "Super Driving Brain" computing system, and human-machine co-driving technologies. BMW is also aiming for increasing its sales of full electric vehicles account to over 50% of its total sales, which aligns with China's development philosophy.
BMW Group is also making strategic inroads into hydrogen powered vehicles. A key initiative is the development of a flexible platform capable of supporting five different powertrain systems, including gasoline, diesel, pure electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and hydrogen fuel cell by approximately 2028. The initial series of BMW's hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) will debut on this versatile platform starting in 2028. Significantly, a suite of pilot and testing projects for these hydrogen FCEVs will explore deployment specifically within Hainan Province. This positions Hainan as a critical testing ground and frontier market for BMW's broader hydrogen energy strategy.
