The journey ends in Wuzhishan, where French photographer Jeremy continues along the route once taken by François-Marie Savina through central Hainan.

Here, he picks tea in the mountains, tries on traditional Li clothing and stays in a boat-shaped house. He also experiences local customs, from Li pottery to the lively bamboo dance.

A century after Savina’s journey, Hainan is a very different island, shaped by new roads, new communities and a changing way of life. Yet its cultural roots remain an important part of the story as the island continues to grow and move forward.
