On Sept. 24, the eve of the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, a promotional event for the Hainan Free Trade Port film industry and the Hainan Island International Film Festival was held at the Chinese Cultural Center in Cairo. Officials from Hainan and members of the Hainan Island International Film Festival organizing committee attended the event, which also welcomed over a hundred representatives of Egypt’s film, cultural, and educational sectors along with local audience members.

The Chinese film Successor tells the story of a wealthy couple who, in an effort to toughen their youngest son's character, deliberately conceal their family wealth and create the illusion of living in an ‘ordinary household’. Approaching topics such as parenting and parent-child relationships with lighthearted humor, the film was the box-office champion of China's 2024 summer season. The screening in Cairo offered Egyptian audiences a window into contemporary Chinese filmmaking and social life.

Shown on the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the film, which focuses on family dynamics and the emotional bonds between parents and children, naturally connected themes of family, growth, and affection with the festive holiday atmosphere. Throughout the screening, the audience frequently responded with laughter and applause, resonating deeply with the family relationships and interactions portrayed on screen.

This screening was part of a broader series of film and cultural exchange activities conducted by the Hainan film culture delegation during their visit to Egypt. The event facilitated communication between Hainan and Egypt in the areas of film screenings, cultural exchanges, and the film industry, while also creating opportunities to expand international cooperation around both Hainan film productions and the Hainan Island International Film Festival.
