Against the backdrop of an evolving global trade landscape, China's Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) is capitalizing on its unique policy benefits to become a key connector linking Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
During the fourth China International Supply Chain Expo, the APSC Asia-Pacific Regional Digital and Smart Supply Chain Center (APSC Center), managed by GGT (Beijing) Science & Technology Group Co Ltd., signed two memoranda of understanding. These agreements were made with the Moscow Export Center in Russia and a supply chain organization associated with the Port of Baltimore in Maryland, US.
Hainan will continue to strengthen two-way trade links by leveraging shipping resources from Yangpu Port and Haikou Port and combining them with its advanced global digital and smart supply chain systems.
The new digital supply chain channel is expected to facilitate global trade.
Under the partnership with Russia, both parties are building platforms to showcase Russian products and extend their international reach. A dedicated section at the APSC Center will feature Russian alcoholic beverages and specialized agricultural products for sale to international visitors in Hainan. Additionally, these products will be distributed in bulk to ASEAN markets via Hainan's broad shipping network with Southeast Asia. Both sides will also regularly organize China-Russia business matchmaking events and cultural and tourism exchanges to enhance industrial collaboration.
Under the partnership with the United States, the parties will work to establish regular direct shipping services and feeder connections linking Yangpu and Haikou ports with the Port of Baltimore. These services are expected to significantly reduce delivery times for fresh products from North America and lower overall logistics costs. Premium seafood from Maryland could be shipped directly to Hainan and then distributed to markets in China and Southeast Asia via the Hainan FTP's network. To fulfill Maryland's needs for Chinese consumer goods and tropical products from Hainan, the center will leverage its corporate database to link buyers with appropriate manufacturers, facilitating consistent exports of Chinese products and Hainan specialties to the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The center in Sanya will also create a Maryland Products Pavilion, offering comprehensive support to US small and medium-sized enterprises in areas such as regulatory compliance, investment, and the development of distribution channels.
Liu Siyang, vice president of the APSC center, stated that the platform will utilize its coordinating role within the digital and smart supply chain network to ensure the continued operations of the dedicated Russian products section, increase sales to inbound visitors and to Southeast Asian markets, and accelerate the development of direct shipping services connecting Hainan's ports with the Port of Baltimore.
The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Hainan Provincial Committee said it will continue connecting domestic and international markets, support the implementation of additional supply chain projects, and contribute to the high-quality development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
