What can a book written a century ago still tell us about Hainan today? In the 1920s, French scholar François-Marie Savina traveled across Hainan with a notebook, recording a world few outsiders had ever seen.

A century later, we followed his path into Wuzhishan, looking at how a place changes, and what remains through time.
