The Hainan Science and Technology Museum officially opened to the public on Wednesday, launching the Stars and Seas: Meeting the Future Labor Day Science Carnival, a multi-day event aimed at promoting innovation and public science education.

Since trial operations began on Dec. 18, 2025, the museum has received more than 320,000 visitors, hosted over 2,000 science outreach events, and welcomed 236 study-tour groups. The venue’s facilities, exhibitions, educational functions, and services have all continued to improve, earning an enthusiastic public response.

Timed to coincide with the Labor Day holiday and primary and secondary school students’ spring break, the official opening features seven different activities, including a grand opening ceremony and a science lecture series. The museum aims to provide visitors—especially young ones—with a scientific experience that blends academic depth with educational value and cultural tourism appeal.

Better Experiences and New Features

Several new features have been introduced with the museum’s official opening. The Giant Screen Cinema has entered trial operation, making this the first science museum to feature a 20-meter 4K acoustically transparent LED screen certified under DCI international standards, offering a significantly enhanced audiovisual experience.

Supporting services have also gotten a boost. The museum restaurant has officially opened to the public, and a new cultural and creative store offers products inspired by deep space, the deep sea, and Hainan’s local culture. In addition, the science education space on the basement level is now open and will host regular public-interest science classes.

The museum has increased the daily reservation quota from the previous cap of 5,000 to the current number 7,000 entry tickets to better meet demand, and will remain open for 12 consecutive days from April 29 to May 10, covering both the Labor Day holiday and the primary and secondary school students’ spring break period.

Exciting Activities Showcase the Appeal of Science

During the Labor Day holiday, the Pop Science Lecture Hall will host daily lectures. Leading science and technology professionals will focus on key areas of technological innovation in the Hainan Free Trade Port, offering accessible and engaging presentations that allow the public to experience the thrill of scientific exploration up close.

At the same time, an immersive interactive show will feature a different daily theme for seven consecutive days, with no repeats. Through fun interactions and flash-mob dance performances, visitors can fully experience the science museum’s unique blend of education and entertainment.

On the evenings of May 1 and May 4, the lake outside the venue will transform into a floating stage for a themed technology concert. On both of those days, morning and afternoon sessions will also feature an exciting Science Name-Tag Ripping Elite Challenge, where child stars, internet influencers, media hosts, and science innovation elites will compete side by side—cleverly combining scientific knowledge with team-based competition.

In addition, the museum has launched a photography event titled Chasing Light and Capturing Clouds, which will run through May 30. Photography enthusiasts are invited to capture the museum’s unique features and memorable science moments, with outstanding entries to be exhibited at the venue.
