On Sept. 27, a review and awards ceremony for the 2025 Gen Z@FTP Hainan FTP International Students Content Creation Project was held at Hainan Medical University. The project, which was sponsored by Hinews and co-organized by the Hainan International Media Center and the UWE College of Hainan Medical University, included training courses as well as cultural tourism experiences. Though centralized training, on-site practical work, and project review, the students gained the video creation and international communication skills they need to tell the story of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Hainan International Media Center OCO Alex gave his thoughts about the event.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement as the students from around the world watched their videos together. Alex, an Overseas Communications Officer of the Hainan International Media Center, served as a professional reviewer. Drawing on his extensive international communication experience and unique insights into the art of video creation, he provided detailed and in-depth critiques of the selected works, analyzing their thematic expression, camera language, and narrative logic. "These videos made by the international students are highly accomplished. The two rounds of submissions show rapid progress," he commented.

Alex also gave some constructive criticism. "The narrative rhythm of some of the videos could be improved to make the story's beginning, development, turning point, and ending clearer, and some of the videos have room for improvement in picture composition and color use. Reasonable visual design can make the theme expression more impactful. Overall, the videos were full of sincerity and creativity, showcasing the vitality and charm of the Hainan Free Trade Port through the eyes of these international students. I hope that more similar activities will be held in Hainan universities, allowing more international students to explore, discover, and promote Hainan."

At the ceremony, several award winners shared their creative experiences and reflections. Pakistani student Abdullah Waleed won first prize in both the first and second round for his videos ‘Window of World Tropical Fruits’ and ‘Bali Village: A Microcosm of Returned Overseas Chinese Culture’. "This is a great opportunity for me to explore Hainan. My videos capture every detail of my trips to Qionghai and Wanning. I hope that through these videos, everyone will see the unique scenery of Hainan," remarked Waleed.

Yu Kaihui, a director of the UWE College of Hainan Medical University, said that the university is committed to providing a wide-ranging exchange platform for international students. The film project not only allows international students to experience the beauty of Chinese culture firsthand, but also deepens their understanding of professional knowledge through collaboration and creation. Going forward, the university will continue to explore more innovative training models to provide international students with a more multifaceted and in-depth learning experience, helping them become outstanding talents with a global perspective and excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
